Yuletide: Okowa’s aide charges Deltans on security-consciousness
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters Engr. Udoka Emmanuel Chika-dibie has advised Nigerians particularly Delta residents to be more vigilant and security conscious during the Christmas period.
Udoka, in a statement on Tuesday in Asaba, said there was need to be more sensitive security-wise as there is an upsurge in crime rate both in and outside the home during the period.
He also advised Deltans not to hesitate to give prompt information concerning suspicious movements, assemblage, objects and persons lurking around their neighbourhood, “whose mission or intentions are not clear’’.
According to him, security is everybody’s business and one way to enhance the work of security agencies is through timely information.
Engr Udoka who has been a security expert for over a decade however, gave some top security tips for the festive season break.
His words: “If you have a tap in your compound at home, do not go out for any reason to stop when it’s surprisingly running in the night.
The hoodlums might use that as a tactic to lure you outside.
“Always try to avoid constructive breaking into your house. At every time, ensure that the door is locked yourself regardless of the number of people working for you. This is because there is no successful robbery without an insider’s assistance.
“You have to be sensitive to things around you. Pay attention to everything that might be a security threat.“If you drive a car, stop displaying valuables in conspicuous places. Valuables placed in transparent areas in the car will entice criminals to trigger something unexpected.
“If you are in a traffic congestion, some hoodlums may walk up to you, asking you to roll down your car glass. Don’t argue with them, hit the car in front of you slightly. Doing this will invite attention to you and that will scare them away.”
“For this Yuletide, we sincerely require the cooperation of Delta residents to effectively nip crime in the bud even before they happen.
“If you see or sense anything wrong or about to go wrong; you have to inform the law enforcement personnel close to you.
“Crimes usually happen in communities and neighbourhoods; and those perpetrating these crimes also live among the people in the neighbourhoods.
“call our distress line 07000911911 to give useful security information,” he stated.
